Men’s Tennis Gets By Montclair

NEW PALTZ — New Paltz defeated Montclair Saturday 8-1 to up their season record to 6-4.

Though the score seemed lopsided, all nine matches were heavily contested. In singles play, three of the six matches went to the deciding set. Ed Paulinski (Floral Park, NY) won his match 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, Tiby Taran (Brooklyn Kings, NY) won 6-1, 6-4, Bobby Calise (East Islip, NY) won 4-6, 7-6, 7-5, Brian Palmenteri (Howard Beach, NY) won 6-4, 6-2, and Josh Greenspan (North Babylon, NY) won 6-3, 6-3. New Paltz #3 Brad Breakstone (Mount Kisco, NY) found himself up on his opponent 6-2, 5-0 but eventually lost seven straight games in the second set and dropped the third 6-7.

In doubles Paulinski and Taran rolled over their opponents 8-2, and David Bridglall (Bronx, NY) and Palmenteri were 8- 3 winners. Breakstone and Calise had a more difficult time but prevailed 8-6.

The Hawks will play again Tuesday at home against Mount Saint Mary at 6:00pm.
