“Language as Power” theme for Annual Writing Day

NEW PALTZ — The SUNY New Paltz Writing Board will present its 6th annual “Celebration of Writing Day” on Thursday, May 2, from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Honors Center at College Hall. Light refreshments will be served.

“Celebration of Writing Day” recognizes and honors student writing from all disciplines. Language as Power is the overall Writing Board theme for this year’s event. Entries from creative writing, memoir/autobiographical, nonfiction writing, and experimental writing are all included.

The event is designed for students to showcase their outstanding talents, writing abilities and techniques.

“I genuinely enjoy The Celebration of Writing Day,” said James Dembowski, a member of the University Writing Board. “It’s fun and gives people the chance to see what interesting things students are writing on campus, plus you get to eat and talk at the same time. What could be better than that!”

Participants will be reading excerpts from their writings, and will have the opportunity for their work to be displayed on the student-run Web site www.myhiddentalent.com that publishes student writing.

The event is free and open to the public. For additional information, contact Patricia Sullivan at 257-3456 or e-mail at sullivap@newpaltz.edu.
