NEW PALTZ — On Sunday, May 5, 2002, the College-Youth Symphony of the Hudson Valley (CYS), directed by Dr. Carole Cowan, will celebrate Children’s Day 2002 by performing a concert of music involving and honoring the young people in our community. The concert begins at 3:00 PM in the Julien J. Studley Theatre at SUNY New Paltz. Tickets are available at the door one hour before the concert.
May 5th is the day when families throughout Asia celebrate the healthy growth and happiness of children. In Japan, many Children’s Day activities involve the arts. Embracing this tradition, the College-Youth Symphony and guests present music by and for the next generation of music-lovers.
As the 2002 winner of the College-Youth Symphony Competition, Jennifer Crist, oboe, is the featured soloist, performing Mozart’s Concerto for Oboe with the symphony. The New Paltz Reformed Church Youth Choir and the SUNY New Paltz Chamber Singers are special guests, performing Handel’s Alleluia, Amen with the CYS. 
The afternoon’s program includes another work by Mozart: the Ave Verum Corpus, also with the Reformed Church Youth Choir and SUNY Chamber Singers. Works by E. Humperdinck, Leroy Anderson, Howard Hanson and John Williams complete the concert.
Ticket prices are as follows: $5 adults, $4 seniors, free for college students with ID and anyone under 18.
