Geneseo Outlasts Men and Women’s Basketball

NEW PALTZ — Both SUNY New Paltz basketball teams were beaten in tight games by Geneseo Saturday. The women’s team lost 61-53 and the men lost 84-78.

In the women’s game, the Lady Hawks battled with the Blue Knights for forty minutes in a see-saw game. In the second half no lead for either team was larger than four points until the final minute of the game. The Knights pulled away in the last fifty seconds to secure the win. Silver Williams (Newburgh, NY) paced the Lady Hawks with 26 points and Kim Weigel added 14.

The men saw an early 21-12 first half lead evaporate as they eventually went into the locker room trailing by five. The Hawks remained close throughout the entire second half but never regained the lead. Ben Davey (Andover, NJ) led all scorers with 19 points. Pat Stirk (Milford, CT) had 15 points and 6 blocks while Tim Mahon (Poughkeepsie, NY) added 12.

Men and women’s basketball will next take on Farmingdale. The women will be on the road Tuesday and the men will host the Rams Saturday.
