Men/ Women’s Swimming and Diving Sweep Oneonta

ONEONTA — Both swimming and diving teams traveled to Oneonta Friday coming out on top. The men’s team won 106-103 and the women’s team won 122-115.

Of the eleven events Friday, the New Paltz men were victorious in seven of them. The Hawks swam the remaining four events as exhibition meaning that they received no points. In the 400-yard medley relay, Jay Sousa (Albany, NY), Jon Amoia (Williamsville, NY), Jeff Galaise (Torrington, CT), and Kent Yeung (Flushing, NY) placed first with a time of 3:54.79. Senior Mark Otto (Sewell, NJ) took the 1000-yard freestyle at 10:51.93, and Freshman Chris Farrell (Sparkill, NY) took the 200-yard freestyle and 500-yard freestyle. Yeung, Sousa, and Greg Muller (Lindenhurst, NY) also took home individual honors with Yeung winning the 200-yard individual medley, Sousa taking the 100-yard freestyle, and Muller winning the 200-yard breaststroke.

On the women’s side, the Hawks placed first in eight of the eleven events. New Paltz swam three events as exhibition. In the 400-yard medley relay Danielle Lindner (Wantagh, NY), Erin Lalor (Richmond Hill, NY), Meghan O’Brien (New Rochelle, NY), and Molly Soule (Clinton, NY) placed first with a time of 4:22.85. Soule, Christine Foster (East Patchogue, NY), Mallory Grempel (Babylon, NY), Andrea Ditter (New Paltz, NY), Jaime Parrotte (Johnson City, NY), and Lauren Ruane (Seldin, NY) were all victorious in individual events. Soule was first in the 200-yard freestyle, Foster won the 1000-yard freestyle, Grempel placed first in the 50-yard freestyle, Ditter was first in the 200-yard individual medley, and Parrotte won the 100- yard freestyle.
