Women’s Soccer Loses Two

NEW PALTZ — The Women’s Soccer Team lost its first two SUNYAC Contest this weekend to Plattsburgh and Potsdam. The loss drops the Hawks to 2-3 on the year.

On Saturday, Plattsburgh got goals from Megan Geary and Leah Puckett at 41:43 and 27:28 of the second half to secure the victory. Plattsburgh ended the game with an 11-4 shot advantage. Maggie Fenton (East Meadow, NY) made nine saves in goal for New Paltz.

Sunday, Jodi Ziemba’s second goal with 4:56 left in the game lifted the Bears to victory over New Paltz 3-2. The Hawks opened the scoring at 39:53 of the first half on a goal from Meredith Ventimiglia (Patchogue, NY). Potsdam knotted the score two minutes later on a goal by Ziemba. The Bears opened the second half with a goal eleven minutes in from Kristen Robbins making it 2-1. New Paltz pressured Potsdam and finally tied the score at two with just over fifteen minutes left on a goal from Keegan Peck (Canastota, NY). Unfortunately, the Hawks were unable to keep the game tied giving up the winning goal late in the game.

New Paltz is home this weekend on Friday against Brockport and Saturday against Geneseo.
