Field Hockey Falls to Montclair St.

NEW PALTZ — The Hawks grabbed the early lead but were unable to hang on eventually falling 5-1. New Paltz’s record drops to 1-6 on the season.

Kelly Anderson (Kingston, NY) gave New Paltz the early lead less than eight minutes into the game at the 27:35 mark. New Paltz held the Red Hawks off until Montclair’s Laura Popes tied the score at 16:40. Sarah Levine gave Montclair a 2-1 lead at the break scoring just 43 seconds from the end of the first half. Levine got her second goal of the game early in the second half at the 32:51 mark for a 3-1 lead. Popes then got insurance goals at 20:31 and 15:48 of the second half, her eighth and ninth goals of the season, to round out the scoring. New Paltz was outshot 36-9 in the match and goalkeeper Liz Clarke (Stone Ridge, NY) made 13 saves for the Hawks.

Field Hockey hits the road on Thursday for a match at Utica College.
