Four Hawks Place on All-SUNYAC Baseball Team

NEW PALTZ — Vinnie Perry, Brian Clarke, Jeff Lackaye, and Eric Kantner were selected to the All-SUNYAC Baseball team for the 2001 season on May 8, 2001.

Perry, a junior Business major from Kingston, N.Y., was selected to the first team for batting an impressive .526 with 11 RBIs in SUNYAC games. Overall, Perry hit .438 with a team leading 33 RBIs, .528 On Base Percentage (OB%), and 14 Stolen Bases (SB). This season, Perry broke four single season records (Batting Average, .438: Slugging Percentage (SLG%), .686: OB%, .528: Hitting Streak in Games, 20) and tied in one (Triples, 4).

Clarke, a senior Biology major from Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia, was selected to the second team for batting .353, with 8 RBIs and a .794 SLG% in conference play. Overall, Clarke hit .367, with five home runs and 18 doubles on the season, which broke the single season doubles record.

Lackaye, a junior transfer from Hudson Valley CC, was an at-large selection to the second team for hitting .421, with 7 RBIs in conference play. Overall, the Television and Radio major hit .345 on the season. Lackaye also broke the single season record for assists (87).

Kantner, a junior from New Hampton, N.Y. went 3-0 with a 1.00 ERA and 32 SO in conference play. Overall, the Communication major went 5-3 on the season, with a 5.02 ERA and 63 SO. Kantner broke the single season record for shutouts (2), Opponents At-Bats (236), and Home Runs Allowed (2).

The Hawks finished the 2001 season with a 22-16-1 record.
