Seniors Key 20th Victory For Hawks

NEW PALTZ — SUNY New Paltz’s five outgoing seniors helped deliver a five-set victory in their final collegiate match, 30-25, 32-34, 26-30, 30-22, 15-9, against Division II East Stroudsburg on Thursday night at Elting Gymnasium.

Senior middle hitter Christopher Wright had 13 kills, seven blocks and five digs for New Paltz, which finishes the year with a 20-7 record. Wright finishes his stellar four-year Hawk career with 1,581 kills, 415 blocks and 370 digs.

Fellow seniors Robert Manosca (33 assists, 13 digs, six kills), Otto Tannure (10 kills, seven digs, four blocks), Carlos Tollinche (10 receptions, six digs) and Ian Walker (19 receptions, eight digs) also had strong efforts for the Hawks. Junior middle hitter Sean Riley (18 kills, eight blocks, five digs) also contributed.

This season, New Paltz achieved its most wins since 1991, when it went 24-13. The Hawks also compiled their best winning percentage (.741) since 1989, when it had a .765 winning percentage (and a 26-8 record), and had its fewest losses since 1988.
