Hawks Lose Heartbreakers in Softball

NEW YORK — New Paltz drops two in closely contested games to Hunter Wednesday afternoon in New York City.

In the first game, down 2-4 heading into the top of the sixth, the Hawks exploded for five runs to take the lead 7-4. However, in the bottom of the sixth, Hunter capitalized on two errors by New Paltz to score four runs. New Paltz couldn’t get their bats going the top of the seventh, thus dropping the first game to Hunter 7-8. Jen Varrone went the distance (6IP, 9H, 2ER, 1SO), while Katie Monahan went two for three and scored a run.

In the nightcap, the Hawks dropped a 3-5 decision under blistery conditions. Kristen Ackermann went the distance surrendering four hits over six innings.
