Hawks Fall To Nationally-Ranked Colonials in Softball

DANBURY, CONN. — Nationally-ranked Western Connecticut State proved too strong an opponent for young SUNY New Paltz on Wednesday, blanking the Hawks, 9-0 (five innings) and 7-0, in a doubleheader.

New Paltz (0-7) managed just one hit – a single by freshman Bridget Leach – in game one. Dionne Chin’s double led three Hawk players with one hit each in the nightcap.

Western Connecticut State, which improves to 13-1 with the sweep, is currently ranked ninth in Division III, and is a perennial softball force, coming off a lost in a NCAA regional final last season.

The Hawks will look to get on the winning track this weekend, when they open SUNYAC competition with doubleheaders at Geneseo (Friday, 3 p.m.) and Brockport (Saturday, 1 p.m.).
