Hawks Edged Again In Baseball By Vassar

POUGHKEEPSIE — An early 2-0 Hawk advantage was overcome late by Vassar College, which defeated SUNY New Paltz for the second time in a week, 5-4, on Wednesday at Prentiss Field.

New Paltz was the home team in the game, despite playing on Vassar’s home field. Since last Wednesday’s game (a 2-1 Hawk loss) had to be moved to Vassar due to insufficient field conditions at New Paltz, it was determined that this game would serve as the “home” game for the Hawks.

Consecutive one-out singles and an error in the top of the ninth inning broke a 4-4 tie, and gave Vassar a sweep of the season series. Prior to this season, the Hawks had not lost to Vassar in over eight years.

New Paltz will open SUNYAC play this weekend with home doubleheaders against Oswego and Utica/Rome, respectively. Gametime on both Saturday and Sunday is 12 p.m.
