Hawks Lose To Stevens Tech In Lacrosse

KINGSTON — After jumping out to a 2-0 advantage early on two Katie Sharp goals, SUNY New Paltz managed just one goal the rest of the first half, en route to a 10-3 halftime deficit, and a 15-6 women’s lacrosse loss to Stevens Tech on Wednesday night at Dietz Stadium.

Sharp, a junior attacker and New Paltz’s all-time leading scorer, now has 56 career points, after tallying the Hawks’ first four goals in the contest. Sophomore Tara Dlouhy and freshman sensation Megan Porter, who, like Sharp, has a three-match scoring streak, provided New Paltz’s other two goals.

A defensive breakdown in front limited freshman goalkeeper Liz Clarke’s effectiveness (eight saves). Clarke was peppered by the Stevens offense, which had 27 shots in the match, compared to New Paltz’s 17 attempts at Ducks’ goalkeeper Katie Finger (10 saves).

New Paltz (0-3) will return to action on Friday, with a 4 p.m. road match against Potsdam at Hamilton College.
