Hawks Edged In Baseball By Cross-River Rival

POUGHKEEPSIE — SUNY New Paltz pitchers allowed just four Brewer hits on the day, but a lack of run support and a defensive gaffe in the bottom of the sixth were the difference, as the Hawks were edged 2-1 by Vassar at Prentiss Field on Wednesday afternoon.

Sophomore starter Keith Roloson (Westtown/Minisink Valley) allowed just four hits over the first six innings, and junior Eric Kantner (New Hampton/Goshen) pitched two scoreless innings in relief, with both collecting three strike outs.

But after New Paltz tied the score at 1-1 in the top of the sixth on Jeff Lackaye’s (Woodstock/Kingston) fielder’s choice, a throwing error in the bottom half of the frame allowed the winning run to trot home from second.

New Paltz (4-7) will play at SUNY Farmingdale tomorrow at 3:30 p.m.
