Hawks Edged By Sacred Heart

NEW PALTZ — SUNY New Paltz missed its opportunity to win the Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (EIVA) Odeneal Division regular season title with a five-set loss (22-30, 30-28, 30-17, 27-30, 16-18) to Division I Sacred Heart on Tuesday night at Elting Gymnasium.

Now the Hawks must wait to see how Sacred Heart (21-5 overall, 6-1 Odeneal) fares in its final Odeneal match. If Sacred Heart loses its final conference match at Roger Williams on Saturday, there will be a three-way tie, with New Paltz earning the EIVA Tournament’s ninth seed.

Senior middle hitter Christopher Wright and sophomore setter Beau Warren each had 19 kills for New Paltz (18-7 overall, 6-2 Odeneal Conference), while Robert Manosca added 30 assists, eight kills, and two blocks.

New Paltz’s next match will be 7 p.m. on April 3 at Mount St. Vincent. The match on April 2 at Springfield has been cancelled.
