NEW PALTZ — Posting the first quadruple-double on any collegiate level this season helped earn SUNY New Paltz men’s volleyball standout Beau Warren the American Volleyball Coaches Association/Sports Imports Division III National Player of the Week award on Monday afternoon.
Warren, a sophomore setter from Canandaigua, NY, had 25 assists, 18 kills, 15 blocks and 10 digs in a 3-1 Hawk win over Division II East Stroudsburg last Thursday.
And in a 3-1 home win against 15th-ranked Stevens Tech last Wednesday, Warren had 35 assists, 12 kills, six digs and three blocks for New Paltz (11-3), which has won 11 of its last 12 matches and continues to be ranked eighth in Division III.
Warren averaged 3.75 kills, 7.5 assists, 2.25 blocks, 2.0 digs and had a .418 hitting percentage for the week. Overall, Warren is second on the team in kills per game (3.14), assists per game (6.34) and service aces (0.32), and is ranked 13th nationally in hitting percentage (.379). He has reached double figures in both kills and assists in seven of 13 matches this season.
Warren transferred to New Paltz this past fall from Rutgers-Newark. He is a business administration major and a 1998 Victor Central High graduate.
