NEW PALTZ — Junot Diaz, the noted Dominican author, will speak at SUNY New Paltz at 8:30 p.m., February 15 in Room 102 of the Lecture Center. . Admission is $1 for SUNY New Paltz students and $2 for members of the general public.
Diaz is the author of Drown, a collection of short stories. His fiction pieces have frequently appeared in the New Yorker, African Voices, The Paris Review, African Verse and Best American Short Stories. He was featured in a cover story on emerging Latino culture in Newsweek.
Recognition of Diaz’ work includes the Eugene McDermott Award from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, a Guggenheim Fellowship and a Lila Wallace Readers Digest Award. He is a member of Dominicans 2000, a grassroots community organization, teaches creative writing at Syracuse University and is currently working on his first novel.
The event is being sponsored by BiGayLa, the bisexual, gay, lesbian, transgendered and straight alliance at SUNY New Paltz.
