New Paltz Loses To Women’s Basketball Power Cortland

CORTLAND — Zebi Williams had a game-high 13 rebounds, but little else went right for SUNY New Paltz, which lost 73-32 to nationally ranked Cortland on Tuesday night at Corey Gymnasium.

The (10-12 overall, 7-11 SUNYAC) Hawks did have a 14-3 run to open the second half, but still trailed by 21 points at that point. Cortland (21-1 overall, 17-1 SUNYAC), which is ranked ninth in Division III, outscored New Paltz 31-11 over the final 12:08 to collect its 47th win in its last 50 games.

Britni Bishop had eight points to lead New Paltz, which got six points apiece from Williams, Maura McShane and Lindsay Dakin, but shot just 10-of-63 (15.9 percent) as a team for the game.

New Paltz will host its final two regular season games this weekend against Potsdam (Friday at 6 p.m.) and Plattsburgh (Saturday at 2 p.m.), before competing in the SUNYAC Tournament as either the seventh or eighth seed next Wednesday at the Utica Memorial Auditorium.
