Men’s Basketball Team Loses At Fredonia

FREDONIA — A solid second half couldn’t overcome a 17-point halftime deficit, as SUNY New Paltz lost at Fredonia, 71-60, on Saturday afternoon in a SUNYAC men’s basketball matinee.

Robert Jones (19 rebounds, 13 points) was nearly unstoppable, and Dave Ott (16 points) and Sean Welsh (11 points) combined to hit seven three-pointers for New Paltz (5-14 overall, 4-11 SUNYAC), which shot just under 23 percent in the first half for the difference in the game. The Hawks remain in 10th place in the conference standings.

Fredonia, meanwhile, solidified its conference standing with the win, and would move into sole possession of fourth place if Oneonta loses at Buffalo State today. Robb Fitchlee scored a game-high 23 points to lead three Blue Devil players in double figures.

New Paltz returns home to host Geneseo at 8 p.m. on Friday at Elting Gymnasium.
