Men’s Basketball Team Ends Season

NEW PALTZ — SUNY New Paltz rallied in the second half, but could not quite overcome a 12-point halftime deficit, in a 90-82 season-ending loss to Plattsburgh on Saturday at Elting Gymnasium.

Four Hawk starters reached double figures in the losing effort, including graduating seniors Mac Cavanaugh and Robert Jones.

Cavanaugh had his best performance of the season, with 21 points and four assists, while Jones (11 points) had 10 rebounds to move past Eric Bell into second place (875 rebounds) on New Paltz’s all-time rebounding list.

Junior Pat Stirk had a career-high 24 points to accompany his nine rebounds and four blocks, while Ben Davey had 10 points and seven boards for New Paltz (6-18 overall, 5-15 SUNYAC).

Roshod Tucker, meanwhile, came off the bench to collect 21 points and six steals for the (7-17 overall, 5-15 SUNYAC) Cardinals, which had five players score in double figures.
