Hawks Win Again In Volleyball

NEW PALTZ — SUNY New Paltz dropped one set en route to its fourth straight men’s volleyball victory, 30-25, 26-30, 30-20, 30-18 over Eastern Mennonite, on Friday night at Elting Gymnasium.

Eastern Mennonite (0-3 overall, 0-2 EIVA Odeneal Conference) had no answer for the potent New Paltz trio of Sean Riley (13 blocks, 10 kills, four digs), Christopher Wright (14 kills, five digs, five blocks) and Beau Warren (23 assists, nine kills, four digs), who helped the Hawks successfully open conference play.

Otto Tannure (four digs) and Jason Bateman (five blocks) added nine kills apiece for New Paltz (4-2 overall, 1-0 EIVA Odeneal), ranked eighth in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association Top 15 Poll.

Meanwhile, Zac Stark (three digs, four service aces) and Todd Shenk (eight digs) each had 12 kills for the Royals, which allowed a 16-2 New Paltz run to close the third set, after gaining momentum by winning set two to even the match at 1-1.

New Paltz returns to action next Thursday with a 7 p.m. non-conference match at Sacred Heart.
