Swim Teams Sweep Plattsburgh

PLATTSBURGH — The SUNY New Paltz Swimming and Diving teams opened the second semester on a good note, with a dual meet sweep of SUNYAC rival Plattsburgh on Wednesday afternoon at Memorial Hall.

The Hawks got three individual wins (200-yard Freestyle, 200-yard Butterfly and 500-yard Freestyle) from Mark Otto to help cruise to a 123-82 men’s win, while the Hawk women also won easily, 114-70.

And after winning two individual events each, New Paltz standouts Christine Foster and Erin Lalor set Plattsburgh pool records in the post-meet time trials. Foster broke the 200-yard Backstroke record with a time of 2:17.49, while Lalor broke former Hawk teammate Jessica DiFabio’s four-year old mark in the 200-yard Breaststroke with a time of 2:37.47.

The New Paltz men (4-2) return to action this Saturday at Rensselaer’s Kumpf Invitational, before rejoining the women (5-2) to host Manhattanville at 6 p.m. next Tuesday.
