Hawks Even Record With Women’s Basketball Win

NEW PALTZ — Freshman point guard Britni Bishop had a game-high 23 points to help lead SUNY New Paltz past Oswego, 65-55, in SUNYAC women’s basketball action on Tuesday night at Elting Gymnasium.

Bishop, who is nationally ranked in three-point percentage (12th) and assists (18th), added four rebounds, three assists and three steals to the winning effort.

New Paltz (5-5 overall, 4-4 SUNYAC) led by as many as 14 points and was ahead for most of the contest. The Hawks shot nearly 55 percent from the field in the second half, while limiting the (1-8 overall, 1-6 SUNYAC) Lakers to just 25 percent effectiveness for the game.

Two other Hawk players – Silver Williams (13 points) and Maura McShane (11 points) – scored in double figures, while Zebi Williams added 10 rebounds and four blocks for New Paltz, which has now won two straight to get its record back to .500. Erin Stanton had 17 points in the loss for Oswego.

New Paltz returns to action this weekend. The Hawks travel to Utica/Rome on Friday and then host nationally ranked Cortland on Saturday night.
