Hawks Close Semester With Men’s Basketball Win

NEW PALTZ — SUNY New Paltz held off a late charge to defeat Buffalo State, 69-67, to close the first semester on Saturday afternoon at Elting Gymnasium.

Both Mario Christian (12 rebounds) and Mac Cavanaugh (three assists) had 16 points to help New Paltz secure the win. Robert Jones (11 points, nine rebounds) also reached double figures for the (3-5 overall, 2-3 SUNYAC) Hawks, which next play on January 5 at Plattsburgh.

William Mann (17 points) led four Bengal players in double figures, and also contributed five steals and four assists. He had all 17 points in the second half to help Buffalo State (3-5 overall, 1-5 SUNYAC) close a 13-point halftime deficit to get within two points.
