NEW PALTZ — On October 29, the SUNY New Paltz Alumni Association hosted in the Terrace Restaurant its 12th Annual Alumni Association Awards Reception.
Nominations of the award recipients honored at the reception were made by campus community members and reviewed by the Alumni Association. A Distinguished Alumni Service Award, a Distinguished Teacher Award, a Recent Graduate Achievement Award, Alumni Association Student Scholarships and Book Awards were bestowed.
The award winners are as follows:
Lori (Klein) Tunkel, a member of the class of ’70 and ’73 and a clerk in the university’s Payroll Office, received the Distinguished Alumni Service Award for her continued volunteer service to New Paltz alumni through her role as treasurer of the Alumni Association.
Theodore Clark, a lecturer in the Department of Business Administration, received the Distinguished Teacher Award for his outstanding service to current New Paltz students.
Julian Paul Keenan, Class of ’91, is an instructor of neurology at Harvard Medical School. He was the recipient of the Recent Graduate Achievement Award.
Nine New Paltz students received Alumni Association Student Scholarships or Mid-Hudson New Paltz Alumni Association Book Awards.
Recipients of specific student scholarships are as follows:
Barbra Lynn Ehlers, a sophomore and art history major — Ruth Cleveland Endowment.
Craig Matthew Seablom, a sophomore and chemistry major — Merit Scholarship Award .
Liliya Panayev, a junior and international relations major — Helen Weber Khunke Memorial Award.
Charlene LaDay-Hill, a junior with a joint major in business administration and journalism — Evelyn Crawford Gluckman Award.
Alumni Association Scholarship Awards were also given to:
Ashley Deforest, a senior and political science major.
Jesenia Hernandez, a junior and speech & hearing major.
Kala Stein, a junior and fine arts major.
Book Awards recipients are:
Junior and theatre major Scott Tunkel.
Freshman Ryan Brown.
