O’Brien Sets Record In Hawk Swim Loss

NEW PALTZ — Meghan O’Brien broke a nine-year-old school record in the 200-yard Butterfly, but the SUNY New Paltz Women’s Swimming and Diving team won just one event – the 200-yard Breaststroke – en route to a 117-88 loss to Division II East Stroudsburg on Wednesday night at Elting Natatorium.

It was only the (3-2) Hawks’ second dual meet loss of the season. New Paltz went 1-2-3 in winning the Breaststroke, behind the strong swimming of Erin Lalor (2:36.72), Scarlet Duba (2:39.17) and Christine Foster (2:53.51). New Paltz took both second and third places in seven of the 11 events contested.

The Hawk men rejoin the women when they host local rival Vassar on Saturday at 1 p.m. Because of the depth of New Paltz’s pool, the diving portion of the meet will occur on Friday night at Vassar.
