Hawks Place Second At SUNYAC Meet

OSWEGO — Sophomore Phil Goodwin picked up two individual places from last year’s meet, and the New Paltz men moved up four places in the team standings at the 2000 SUNYAC Cross-Country Championships on Saturday at SUNY Oswego.

The New Paltz men placed a school-best second, behind Goodwin’s (27:16) sixth- place finish, while the Hawk women were ninth, thanks to a 23rd place finish by freshman Rebecca Demeri (20:57).

All five scoring runners for the men finished in the top 25. Finishers for the men were Matt Brown (11th, 27:41), Justin Lee (12th, 27:42), Chris Tuttle (18th, 28:08), Corey Crawford (23rd, 28:17), Daniel Holton (36th, 28:55) and John Zarella (41st, 29:02). Non-scorers included Garrett Beers (29:18), Shaun Roth (29:58), Greg Sautner (30:15), Michael Dolce (30:30), Kevin Harrison (30:48), Matt Gabriel (30:49) and Tom Lamontanaro (33:58).

On the women’s side, Kristi Markwalter (37th, 22:01), Cassie Quackenbush (42nd, 22:23), Alison Tracy (47th, 22:41), Crista Szymanski (50th, 23:11) and Dawson Gerhardt (53rd, 23:34) also finished.

In two weeks (November 4), the teams will compete at the ECAC Championships hosted by Tufts University in North Grafton, Massachusetts.
