NEW PALTZ — The SUNY New Paltz Women’s and Men’s Swimming and Diving teams are first and second, respectively, after day one of the 14th annual Long and Short Relays on Friday at Elting Natatorium.
The six-team invitational annually opens the Hawk season.
The Hawk women won two of the five races on day one, and are just ahead (24 points) of Oswego (23), which set two meet records on Friday.
On the men’s side, the team of Mark Otto, Kraig Brigham and Jeff Burke provided the lone win, in the 3 x 500 yard Freestyle Relay, though the Hawks finished no lower than third the rest of the night. They have 19 points, nine less than 1999 meet champion Coast Guard (28).
Action resumes with the “Short” portion of the two-day meet tomorrow at 10 a.m.
