Field Hockey Falls To Montclair State

UPPER MONTCLAIR, NJ — SUNY New Paltz led in a match for the second time in school history, and only trailed 2-1 at the half, but still lost to Montclair State, 8-1, on Tuesday night.

Freshman midfielder Casey Stelmack scored 12:18 into the contest to give the (0-8) Hawks an early 1-0 advantage. But Alison Bellino tied the score for Montclair State (6-3) with the first of her two goals just 6:36 later, and Jen Eden gave the Red Hawks the lead to stay one minute before halftime.

New Paltz goalkeeper Liz Clarke made 14 saves in the loss for the Hawks, which close SUNYAC play with a 4 p.m. match at Oswego on Friday.
