Zalacca Named SUNYAC President

NEW PALTZ — SUNY New Paltz Athletic Director Jim Zalacca has been named President of the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) for the 2000-01 academic year.

Zalacca, a resident of Clifton Park, NY, spent two years (1997-99) as the SUNYAC Men’s Division Representative and this past year as President-Elect also served as chair of the SUNYAC Finance Committee.

As SUNYAC president, Zalacca’s duties include calling all meetings of the Executive Committee and Governing body to order and presiding over those seasonal assemblies. In addition, he will be responsible for attending all meetings that have a bearing on the function of the conference, including the annual NCAA Convention, and will serve as the official spokesperson for the conference.

Zalacca also is responsible for making SUNYAC committee appointments, pending approval of the membership body.

But committee work is no new thing for Zalacca. He is a member of the prestigious NCAA Men’s Basketball Rules Committee, is one of a select few on the elite Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Executive Council, and also is involved with numerous ECAC committees, including the ECAC Robbins Scholar-Athlete Award Division III Subcommittee and Division III Men’s Basketball Team Award Committee.

Zalacca is completing his seventh year as Director of Athletics at New Paltz.
