Men’s Tennis Team Overpowered By Vassar

NEW PALTZ — Perennial men’s tennis power Vassar College presented too strong a challenge for SUNY New Paltz on Wednesday, winning 8-1 in a match at the university Air Structure.

The final match of the day delivered the (1-2) Hawks’ lone win, with the team of Justin Jourden and Chris Knoblauch defeating Joel Barras and Kenneth Tang, 8-4, in second doubles. Knoblauch narrowly missed earning a singles win as well, falling in three sets (6-2, 5-7, 7-5) at fourth singles to Nathaniel Bruhn. And Onteora resident Josh Elohim lost a grueling 22-game match (6-4, 7-5) to Vassar’s Joel Barras.

New Paltz returns to action next Wednesday with a 3:30 p.m. match at Rensselaer.
