Men’s Basketball Team Falls To Plattsburgh

NEW PALTZ — The hot perimeter shooting of Josh Barcomb (34 points, including seven three-pointers) and his Plattsburgh teammates was too much for New Paltz to handle, as the Hawks dropped their first game of the second-semester, 76-64, on Friday night at Elting Gymnasium.

The (1-7 overall, 1-5 SUNYAC) Cardinals made 12 threes in all, extending a two-point halftime advantage to a 12-point final margin. Meanwhile, New Paltz (2-6 overall, 1-5 SUNYAC) connected on just three of its 12 shots (.250) from behind the arc and committed 25 turnovers.

Robert Jones (13 points, 11 rebounds, two blocks) led three Hawks in double figures, while Mac Cavanaugh added 13 points, four rebounds and three assists before leaving the game with a cut to his head after a hard foul with 11:29 remaining. Demetrios Tsimis continued his strong play with 12 points, eight boards, four blocks and two steals in the losing effort.

New Paltz returns to action tomorrow with a 4 p.m. home matinee against Potsdam.
