Women’s Soccer Selected For ECAC Tourney

NEW PALTZ — Following its second-ever appearance in the State University of New York Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Tournament over the weekend, SUNY New Paltz has been selected to compete in the Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III Northeast Women’s Soccer Tournament, which begins Wednesday.

The fourth-seeded (11-8-2) Hawks will face #5 seed Keuka College (10-7) in Keuka Park on Wednesday at 2 p.m. In the other opening round matchup, #6 seed Geneseo (9-9-2) plays at #3 seed Brockport (10-7-2).

The tournament’s top two seeds, St. Lawrence (13-7-1) and the University of Rochester (8-5-3), respectively, earned byes into the semifinals, and will face Wednesday’s winners on Saturday at St. Lawrence. The championship game, which will also be played at St. Lawrence, is Sunday at a time to be determined.

New Paltz, which lost to eventual champion Oneonta 3-0 in Friday’s SUNYAC Semifinals, will be making its first-ever appearance in the ECAC Tournament. Earlier this season, the Hawks broke the school record for wins in a season (nine) and their six conference wins doubled the three SUNYAC victories they had in 1989.
