Women’s Soccer Ties Geneseo

NEW PALTZ — SUNY New Paltz continued its strong play in Friday afternoon’s women’s soccer match at Alumni Field. The Hawks played to a thrilling scoreless double-overtime tie with SUNYAC rival Geneseo.

New Paltz, currently the 10th-ranked team in the NSCAA/Adidas New York/Northeast Region Poll, prevailed 4-3 in the penalty kick shootout, which does not affect the game outcome but is used in breaking ties among teams vying for the four-team SUNYAC Soccer Tournament.

Hawk goalkeeper Laura Neander was the brightest star, making 15 saves in the game, including five in the two overtime periods. With the shutout, her fourth of the season, Neander lowers her already stingy goals against average to 0.74.

The Hawks return to host Brockport tomorrow at 1 p.m. The Golden Eagles lost 1-0 on Friday at Oneonta.
