Women’s Soccer Team Beats Potsdam To Sweep SUNYAC Weekend

NEW PALTZ — SUNY New Paltz kept on rolling in women’s soccer on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field, beating winless Potsdam, 3-1, to sweep the opening weekend of SUNYAC play.

Senior captain Jessica Nadolny scored two goals and set up another to lead the (5-1-0 overall, 2-0-0 SUNYAC) Hawks to their third straight victory, and continue New Paltz’s best start in school history.

Alicia Peimer scored New Paltz’s first goal off an indirect kick by Nadolny at 8:44. The play was set up by Potsdam goalkeeper Jill Patterson’s illegal handling of a pass back by a defender in front of the goal.

After April Miller scored Potsdam’s first goal of the season at 29:25, New Paltz tightened its play to hold the (0-5 overall, 0-2 SUNYAC) Bears scoreless, allowing just one Potsdam shot the rest of the way.

In the second half, Nadolny scored the first of her two goals at 56:27 from 25 feet out. Then at 83:40 she blasted a ball off Patterson’s hands and over the goal line into the net.

For the game, the Hawks peppered Patterson (13 saves) with 29 shots, while allowing Potsdam just three good opportunities at New Paltz netminder Laura Neander.

New Paltz looks to continue its winning streak at 4 p.m. on Tuesday at Vassar College.
