MBA Update – August 1999

The Department of Business Administration applied to offer an MBA program with concentrations in Accounting, Finance and International Business several years ago. The proposal passed all of the necessary levels of approval at the campus level quite some time ago and has been with SUNY Central Administration since.

In July 1999, the SUNY Board of Trustees was scheduled to vote on the approval or denial of SUNY New Paltz’s MBA program. At the July meeting, the vote was tabled.

We have been told that the SUNY Board of Trustees has placed the vote for the MBA at SUNY New Paltz on their agenda for their late September meeting. If the Board of Trustees approves the program, the State Education Department must next pass it. We expect to find out in late September if we can offer the MBA.

If the department is granted the right to offer the MBA, current students in the MS in Business may have the option of switching over to the MBA program. Several advisement meetings for current MS in Business students will be held to explain how this transition would occur.

If approval comes during the fall 1999 semester, the program is scheduled to begin in January 2000.

Stay posted for further updates and keep your fingers crossed!!
