Women’s Basketball Loses At Buffalo State, Fredonia

BUFFALLO — On a day on which senior forward Jasmine Sanchez became the first SUNY New Paltz women’s basketball player to score 1,000 points in her career, the Hawks fell to the SUNYAC’s third-place team, Buffalo State, 71-41, at the BSC Sports Arena.

Sanchez (nine rebounds, four assists, four steals) surpassed the 1,000-point barrier with 11:14 remaining in the contest, and finished with 17 points to increase her school-record total to 1,003.

It was the second loss in less than 24 hours for the (4-15 overall, 3-12 SUNYAC) Hawks, who lost 76-71 in double overtime at Fredonia on Friday. At Fredonia, Sanchez had 21 points and 16 rebounds to lead four Hawks in double figures. Lisa Burriss (19 points), Robin Shields (16 points), and Omayra Gomez (10 points) were the others.
