Women’s Basketball Edged By Utica/Rome

NEW PALTZ — Despite 29 points and 15 rebounds from senior forward Jasmine Sanchez, the SUNY New Paltz women’s basketball team fell short in its bid to sweep the season series from Utica/Rome, 55-51, on Tuesday night at Elting Gymnasium.

The (4-13 overall, 3-10 SUNYAC) Hawks shot a dismal 24 percent from the field in the contest, but managed to keep the game close throughout, forcing 10 lead changes before finally being forced to foul down the stretch.

Sanchez, a three-time All-SUNYAC selection, needs just 35 points over New Paltz’s seven remaining regular-season games to reach 1,000 points for her career.
