Bruley Named Tennis Coach

NEW PALTZ — Robert Bruley has been hired as the new full-time men’s and women’s tennis coach and event manager at SUNY New Paltz.

Bruley, a native of England, served as interim women’s tennis coach in the fall after Bob Siracuse left to become the Director of Athletics at Fallsburg High School.

“I welcome the opportunity to strengthen the men’s and women’s tennis programs,” Bruley said, adding, “I think that my many years of coaching will make both programs energetic, educational, and exciting to be a part of.”

A former standout athlete in many sports, including soccer, squash, and tennis, Bruley has played and coached extensively on the international level, including a stint leading the heralded Corinthian Casuals Soccer Club in England. More recently, he was the men’s and women’s squash coach at Bard College.

“I’m very pleased that Rob has decided to join our staff,” Athletic Director Jim Zalacca said. “He did a fine job on an interim basis with our women’s tennis team in the fall. I’m quite confident that his significant experience in racquet sports will serve both our men’s and women’s programs well and provide valuable direction for our student-athletes in the years to come.”

Bruley currently resides in nearby Port Ewen with his wife, Colleen, who is in her second year as the Hawks’ women’s soccer and lacrosse coach.
