NEW PALTZ — A professional mini-conference for present and former elementary education student teachers at the State University of New York at New Paltz will be held at the campus on Friday, March 6. The program will begin with a get-together breakfast and registration in the Terrace Conference and Events Center at 8 a.m.
More than a dozen workshops have been planned for the participants all of which deal with improving teaching techniques or developing skills to secure a teaching position. Among the workshop topics focusing on teaching will be those on classroom management, developing games for classroom use, phonics, and inclusive learning. Additional workshops will focus on understanding multiple intelligences, literacy education, and the art of writing.
Workshops focusing on obtaining a job will include learning how to prepare a portfolio, career development and resume suggestions, and tips on the interview process, including a role playing session.
Workshop sessions will be conducted by faculty and professional staff. Abbey Cash and members of the elementary education faculty have developed the program in cooperation with Tonda Highley, director of the Career Advisement and Fieldwork Center.
