Historian’s Presentation Address Women in History

NEW PALTZ — Lena Orlin will conduct a slide show, “Gertrude’s Closet,” about women’s roles in early modern European culture at the State University of New York at New Paltz on April 2, beginning at 7:30 p.m. in LC 100.

Orlin is the executive director of the Shakespeare Association of America and Research Professor of History at the University of Maryland. She is the author of “Private Matters and Public Culture in Post-Reformation England,” the editor of “Elizabethan Households: An Anthology,” and has published many articles in scholarly journals and book collections. She has also held fellowships from the National Endowment for the Humanities and Center for Visual Arts at the National Gallery in Washington, D.C. Orlin received her doctorate from the University of North Carolina.

Orlin will also lead a faculty workshop with Carole Levin, a member of the history faculty, on the topic of publishing and applying for grants in the humanities. It will take place April 3 in the Honors Center, College Hall from 10 to 12 a.m.

Orlin’s presentations are sponsored by the departments of history and English, the Office of the Dean of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the Honors Program, Phi Alpha Theta and the History Club.
