MASTER OF SCIENCE IN BUSINESS DEGREE OFFERED

NEW PALTZ — A new graduate-level program leading to the master of science in business degree will be offered at the State University of New York at New Paltz beginning this fall. The master’s program, approved by the New York State Education Department, will offer concentrations in accounting, decision sciences, and international business. A concentration in finance is expected to be added in the near future.

“It is not necessary to have an undergraduate degree in business in order to enroll in some areas of the master’s program,” said Robert Mumper, dean of graduate studies. Individuals who plan to focus their studies on international business or decision sciences and who do not have an undergraduate degree in business must complete a certificate program, offered at New Paltz, in Pre-professional Business. He pointed out that candidates for the master’s program in accounting must have a baccalaureate degree in accounting.

Mumper noted that there has been a good deal of regional interest in this new program. “In particular,” he said, “the areas of concentration respond to the needs of prospective students from our region.” The master’s program is designed for either full- or part-time students with courses being offered on the New Paltz campus and, utilizing distance-learning technology, at the Orange County Higher Education Center or at Orange County Community College in Middletown.
