NEW PALTZ — L. David Eaton, interim dean of Admissions at the State University of New York at New Paltz since 1995, has been appointed the College’s dean of enrollment management.
In his new position, Eaton will be responsible for managing the marketing and admissions process of the College, which will include recruiting at the undergraduate, graduate and international levels. He also will coordinate enrollment services and overall retention efforts at the College.
“The creation of a high profile enrollment management system at New Paltz is essential to the growth and development of the institution,” Eaton said. “We’ve come a long way in the last 15 to 20 years in terms of the quality of programs being offered and the caliber of student applicants. The implementation of the new system will ensure the institution’s future growth.”
Eaton, who has a master’s degree in public administration from Northern Michigan University in Marquette, has served in many capacities since his arrival at New Paltz in 1981. Prior to his position as interim dean of Admissions, Eaton was associate vice president of Student Affairs for five years; from 1985 to 1990 he served as dean of Student Life; and from 1981 to 1985, he was director of Residence Life. Before that, Eaton was director of Residence Life/Auxiliary Operations at Peru State College in Nebraska.
He is active in numerous University service programs, including international recruitment and program development, the College’s Retention Committee, president of the Board of Directors of the Children’s Center, and adviser to the New Paltz Ice Hockey Club.
Also, Eaton is involved in various community activities. He is chair of the Ulster County Legislature’s Stop DWI Advisory Board and manager/coach of the Rondout Valley Little League. He has served on the Mid-Hudson Catskill Migrant Council Board of Directors, and as a member of the Tillson Volunteer Fire Department. He lives in Cottekill (NY) with his wife and three children.
