NEW PALTZ — The 1996 “Environment Weekend: Earth Connections,” a two-day long course designed for teachers seeking to improve interdisciplinary teaching practice, will be held at the State University of New York at New Paltz Ashokan Field Campus April 19-21.
Located near Olivebridge, New York, the Ashokan Field Campus outdoor classroom will form the focus for the program, providing a unique environment in which to explore how connections can be made across a variety of teaching and learning disciplines.
A sampling of the 20 workshops offered include Bird Study, Children’s Literature, Environmental Art, Journal Writing, Papermaking, Cathedral Gorge Hike, Indian Village, and Canoeing. Guest workshop leaders will be Ken Burrows and Judy Walker from the University of North Carolina.
The weekend course can be taken for in-service credit, graduate credit (tuition is extra) or credit free. Cost for the weekend is $89 which includes use of the bunkhouse facilities and meals, registration for all workshops and activities, and certificate of completion. A minimum deposit of $50 is required. Deadline for registration is April 13.
