The Pleasers bringing back that Motown vibe

A few weeks ago we went to one of the local bars, SNUGS HARBOUR to listen to a local band called The Pleasers playing. I didn’t know anything about the band before, I only heard about them because one of the singers goes to the same class as some of the other IIB-students.

Anyway, the band was amazing! They played Motown Music from Marvin Gaye, Jackson5 etc. as well as a song by Amy Winehouse and also their own songs which is in the same type of music style. Everybody was dancing like crazy!

If you get the chance, go see The Pleasers playing!

Snugs is one of the best places here in New Paltz just because they have very nice staff, a cozy atmosphere, nice vibe and always live music. Don’t miss this place when you’re here!

Sipping green tea in an old sofa

Too many changes all at once.

I am now living in an unfamiliar place with 21 strangers who don’t speak my language.

I’m feeling just a tiny bit confused.

Being an incurable introvert, I sometimes feel the need to take a moment for myself, just to organize my thoughts. It’s not that I don’t like the place I’m in or the people I’m with, don’t get me wrong, this experience has by far been incredible, I’m loving every single second. I just feel like having a comforting place where I can go to collect my thoughts and all these new feelings.

And I found that place: it’s the New Paltz Cafeteria.

It’s such an amazing place to study in, or to just chill with your friends. When you walk in, it feels like a familiar place, maybe because of all the old furniture or maybe because somebody is constantly practicing with his guitar right next to the entrance door. The wooden floor creaks with every step, until you reach one of the many sofas in the room, and believe me they’re as old as comfortable, you’ll feel like you’re sitting on a cloud. The lights and music are never too strong or overwhelming, they are just perfect for the atmosphere, letting the harsh light from the outside world peak through the large windows on one side of the room, but not letting any of the noise or worries from the chaos of your everyday life in. You feel like nothing can affect you, while you’re in there.

Can you tell how in love I am with this place?!

So if you’re looking for a relaxing place to lay down your tired bones and sip something hot (or cold) go to the New Paltz Cafeteria, you won’t regret it. I suggest to try the Jasmine Green Tea, they serve it either hot or cold and it smells heavenly. It’s the icing on the cake.

IIB-students going on a roadtrip!

The IIB-group of fall ’13 arrived approximately three weeks ago, and the time has passed so quickly! Even so we’ve already had time to go on a weekend-trip!

Our second weekend here 12 of us went on a roadtrip to Atlantic City and Philadelphia! We also found time to go shopping in the huge outlet Woodbury Commons. We were divided into one all-girls car, and one all-boys car and the girls stopped at two more outlets (TJ Max and Marshalls). It is no myth that we girls like to shop!

Besides all the shopping we had good food, went sightseeing, visited some clubs and just had a lot of fun! Atlantic City looked like little Las Vegas at night, but was quite dodgy during the day. However, we went to the beach to have a look (not to tan or swim though since it was very warm but cloudy) and had breakfast on a restaurant just by the beach, it was beautiful.
I didn’t know so much about Philadelphia before coming there, (other than it being the hometown of The Fresh Prince of Bel Air) but it was a very nice city. The only bad thing about the trip to Philly was that we just missed a huge music festival that they had that weekend. Some of my favorite artist were performing so it would have been awesome to see! We’ve learnt our lesson to check out what’s happening in the city we’re going to next!

Anyway, I’ll let the photos speak for themselves!
