Dear Campus Community:

We are writing to update you on the Graduate School Strategic Plan and related activities. The planning process continues and a steering committee has been working creatively and productively to develop a plan that defines an extensive and bold agenda that directs and prioritizes energies and resources in these five critical areas: Program Development and Refinement, Marketing and Recruitment, Admissions and Enrollment Management, Student Engagement and Support, and Organizational Factors.

Charge

Many of you are aware that Dr. Philip Mauceri, Provost & Vice President for Academic Affairs, in his December 2012 Faculty Report, charged me to include a series of recommendations in the strategic plan to guide, among other factors, the selective:

• addition of new graduate programs and initiatives
• revisions to existing graduate programs
• elimination of graduate programs
• deployment and—in some cases— redistribution of resources

As previously stated, the Steering Committee will communicate its progress to you in developing its strategy and associated recommendations for strengthening and revitalizing the Graduate School.

Process

The strategic planning process began in spring 2012 and is scheduled to end in May 2013. We desire input from the campus community and strongly urge your continued involved in the process as we would like the plan to reflect your perspectives and values. Do respond when we call by attending meetings and focus groups and by emailing us, your suggestions relating to the five critical areas described above. Once a draft of the plan has been finalized, we will invite your review and comments, which you also may email us using the above mentioned address.

We are optimistic that, with your engagement and ideas, we will be able to generate a comprehensive and forward-looking set of recommendations to advance the goals of our Graduate School.
