Teaching Circle – 09.18.13
This circle will address Maintaining Civility in the Classroom. At some point in their career most faculty have experienced conflict in the classroom as a result of teaching a controversial subject, so-called hot topics, challenges to their authority, disruptive behaviors, and political, social or ideological conflict. Avoidance is not an option in such situations. This discussion will focus on strategies and techniques for addressing conflict and maintaining civility in the classroom and will explore how to turn conflict into a learning experience for both student and instructor.
