The Center for Research, Regional Education and Outreach (CRREO) at the State University of New York at New Paltz, in conjunction with the New York League of Conservation Voters Education Fund (NYLCVEF) will host the 19th Congressional District Candidate Forum on Sustainability on Wednesday, Oct. 1, at 7 p.m. in Lecture Center Room 100 on the New Paltz campus.

Facing major concerns like energy transmission, threats to local drinking water sources, and systemic infrastructure underinvestment, the Hudson Valley is on the forefront of many sustainability challenges. The next congressional member from the 19th District can help address issues like these, along with the protection of open space and long-term planning for the effects of climate change.

Both candidates – incumbent Congressman Chris Gibson and Sean Eldridge – will be questioned on a wide range of sustainability issues, including transit-oriented development, renewable energy, hydro-fracking and much more. This forum will focus exclusively on sustainability with candidates appearing sequentially.

CRREO Director and Associate Vice President for Regional Engagement Dr. Gerald Benjamin will moderate.

“This event is in accord with the college’s role as a place for public consideration of key choices facing us all,” said Benjamin. “We are pleased to provide a neutral venue for this crucial policy discussion for the region, the state, and the nation.”

This event is free and open to the public.
